KB 100005

VhxdTool is a command line utility for Windows for quick creation and resizing of virtual hard disk files (VHDX). VhdxTool offers similar functionality to a former program vhdtool for Windows Server 2008/R2, but while vhdtool worked with older (VHD) format, vhdxtool works with the new (VHDX) format.

Unlike standard Windows tools like diskpart or New-VHD, and like the former vhdtool for VHD files, this tool does not write the zeros in the newly created or enlarged VHDX file. Please make sure you understand the implications of this technique: more details in our blog post.

  1. Click on "Download file" on the left and save the file in a suitable location on your hard disk.
  2. Read the Release Notes on command line options.
  3. Use Command Prompt or PowerShell to execute the commands.
